Episode Eight: October 20, 2021

Our First Maxxer Chat

Jenni and Suze bring on Billy Anderson, a certified interventionist, as their first guest on the podcast.

Traditionally, podcasts have guests, and this is not their normal format. Jenni and Suze have been contacted by people offering to be a guest on their podcast, but the people who contacted them weren’t really related to their subject matter. Suze and Jenni didn’t consider a guest this season until Billy Anderson chatted with Suze at a networking event about listening to the podcast and how he used what he heard when he had a crisis.
The three had a wonderful time chatting about various things, including the valuable services Billy offers to assist families in crisis to get help.

Episode Seven: September 15, 2021

Trigger Ping Pong Anyone?

Jenni and Suze meet up again to continue talking about triggers. Once we activate someone, we have a choice. And sometimes, we react without thinking. Then the trigger ping pong game begins! Depending on how many people are involved in an event, there can be several activations between several people: several ping pong games going on at the same time!

Suze wonders if a trigger ping pong match can be avoided, and once again, it can’t. Jenni and Suze discuss why that happens, and what can be done if we find ourselves in a multi-person trigger ping pong tournament. Get ready to use your trigger plan again, which could mean walking away for a bit if possible. It’s not always possible to leave though, as they both discuss. It was worth staying until the end, despite the discomfort of reactions.

Suze and Jenni discuss examples from their personal experiences all throughout the discussion, sharing what they’ve learned. Avoiding is not a plan to deal with trigger ping pong. You don’t have to hit the ball back though, even if you realize you’re in the middle of a trigger ping pong match. Our natural inclination is to play to win, and in relationships, winning isn’t always beneficial.

Managing our reactions takes work. Another Maxer Method is encouraged for all.
Next episode is a departure from discussing a particular subject, something new for Jenni and Suze.

Episode Six: August 18, 2021

Wait, I just triggered someone!

Jenni and Suze meet again to discuss triggers, this time focusing on realizing when we activate someone else, and what we can do about it.

First they review their experiences with the Maxer Method from Episode 5, with examples from Jenni this time.

Suze and Jenni then talk about how we never know when someone will react to something while they’re interacting with them. They both share examples of when their spouses, before they even married, experienced a strong reaction from them that they did not anticipate. They realize that sometimes the only way to really learn someone else’s triggers is to experience life with that person. They discuss how they can tell someone has had a reaction to them, and how that can actually make the relationship stronger! Insight Maximizers want to improve how they handle their relationships, so they go more smoothly.

Instead of running the other way, Jenni and Suze discuss what can be done to mitigate someone else’s reaction when they are activated. There are things that can be said and done to help diffuse the situation.

As always, they leave us with a Maxer Method related to the discussion.

Just when you thought they were done with triggers, they realized that there are times when one person who has been triggered can activate the other person in response. Come back for Episode 7 to learn more!

Episode Five: July 21, 2021

So you’ve been triggered. Now what?

Everyone gets triggered. It’s a natural part of life. Something can evoke a strong reaction when it reminds us of something from the past. This why Suze and Jenni suggest having a plan. They hash it out; sharing how to create your own plan to use when you’re triggered. They share crazy funny stories, and real-life examples on what they’ve learned and how they created a new process for gaining insight when we’re triggered. They’re betting it will be helpful for you too!

You’ll learn how you can benefit from triggers. Suze and Jenni show you how to empower yourself by shifting your mindset about triggers. They invite you to join them in letting go of the old ideas and old narrative about triggers. They’ve even renamed “triggers”. Listen for it! The new name is empowering!

Be sure to come back for their next episode when they talk about what to do if you’ve triggered someone else.

Episode Four: June 23, 2021

Triggers - Don't be Scared!

Jenni and Suze start their deep dive into triggers. They encourage their fellow Insight Maximizers out there to approach, not avoid triggers. In fact, they suggest that people that want to maximum insight naturally approach triggers with curiosity. Yes, they do!
But first Jenni and Suze jump into the definition. A trigger is “something that evokes a strong reaction”.  Although we tend to think of triggers in the context of negative emotions, some triggers might feel good to us, such as a song from the past that evokes a tender memory.
Once they establish what a trigger is, they dive into why triggers matter. Why do we want to approach our triggers? One of the many reasons that they discuss is the principle that: “what we resist persists”.

After they identify what a trigger is and why it’s important, Jenni and Suze talk about how to recognize when we’ve been triggered. Here’s where they share their therapeutic and coaching tools that they use both professionally and personally to quickly identify triggers and get faster insight.

They challenge the Insight Maximizer community to observe their reactions, including the intensity of emotions. And shift their mindset to approach triggers with curiosity rather than avoid them.

Be sure to come for their next when they jump into what to do about triggers; “So, You’ve Been Triggered. What Now?”

Episode Three: May 19, 2021

An Event. What Do We Mean?

Jenni and Suze meet again to start discussing what being an Insight Maximizer is about. When Jenni and Suze started talking about their experiences at their respective weddings, they decided to put together a way to prepare for future events by learning from past events.
Jenni and Suze meet again to start discussing what being an Insight Maximizer is about. When Jenni and Suze started talking about their experiences at their respective family weddings, they decided to put together a way to prepare for future events by learning from past events.
But first, what is an event? Life is a series of events, major and minor, macro and micro, planned and unplanned events. Merriam-Webster says that an event is “something that happens”. Insight Maximizers adds the reaction to what happens, which is what we’re looking to understand from an event.
Looking at the reaction to events is hard and part of what we decide to do so we won’t make the same mistakes over and over. Jenni and Suze talk about examples in their life of micro and macro events, planned or unplanned events. The thrill seekers that they are, they recommend a challenge to their listeners to apply what Jenni and Suze discuss in this episode.
Suze and Jenni blend their personal experience, therapeutic tools, and coaching tools to learn how to have better events in the future. Their process deals with past, present, and future to help people live better and feel better as they experience events with other people.
Come back for the next episode when Suze and Jenni will talk more about the processes they have created to help tune and fine-tune how we deal with things like “feelings stacking” and “emotional hangovers” because of events.

Episode Two: April 21, 2021

Why We Started Insight Maximizers

Suze and Jenni are two insight-oriented people that want to learn from their experiences. They want to make the most of events that have left them bewildered and asking themselves: “What just happened?”

About four years ago Suze and Jenni had both returned from family weddings and found themselves commiserating on some common experiences. As a result of these simultaneous experiences, Suze and Jenni started to work together on ways to better prepare themselves for upcoming events. That’s when they realized that no one seems to prepare psychologically or emotionally for get-togethers with other people; “And, like us, many people find themselves walking away from events asking; ‘What just happened?’”

They came up with some tools and things to do that became extremely valuable for them. They shared the processes with a few key people that gave feedback that it was valuable for them as well.

“Every time we get together with anyone to discuss what we’re doing, we see them light up and start to talk about events from their lives, and how things went, and being blown away or confused by what just happened. They would get excited about our project.  That’s when we decided to expand this into a podcast to share with others.”

Suze and Jenni blend their personal experience, therapeutic tools and coaching tools to learn how have better events in the future. Their process deals with past, present and future to help people live better and feel better as they experience events with other people.
Come back for the next episode when Suze and Jenni will talk more about the processes they have created to help tune and fine-tune how we deal with things like “feelings stacking” and “emotional hangovers”.

Episode One: March 17, 2021

Suze Gadol Anderson and Jenni Hubby introduce who they are to the podcast world. They share how they met, how they both work in the helping field, and how they began their Insight Maximizers project.

Suze is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in Eugene, Oregon. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Communications from the University of Texas at Austin. Her college experiences and challenges in relationships around that time motivated her to seek her own personal growth. This journey eventually led her to pursue a Master's Degree in Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington. Over the years, Suze has established a very successful counseling practice, with licenses in Texas and in Oregon.

Jenni is a Professional Certified Coach based in Flower Mound, Texas. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas and married her college sweetheart at twenty-one, fresh out of college. When her marriage came crashing down in her late thirties, Jenni found that alcohol helped her escape her overwhelming reality. In 2005 she sought treatment for alcoholism at Richardson Regional Medical Center in Richardson, Texas. Which leads to how she connected with Suze.
Suze and Jenni met in 2010 in Dallas, Texas through a professional networking association. They figured out that their paths had crossed five years earlier at Richardson Regional when Suze worked in addiction treatment and Jenni was a patient receiving treatment. A serendipitous moment, that is still cherished today.

Both Jenni and Suze lived in the Dallas area with their families most of their lives until 2015 when Suze and her family decided to relocate to the beautiful state of Oregon. But distance couldn’t stop their friendship. They actually became closer friends by sharing life's ups and downs and major transitions with each other. And this is how their project, Insight Maximizers began.
